Как социальные и культурные процессы отражаются в городских пространствах? И что об этом может рассказать этнография? Опираясь на более чем двадцатилетний опыт полевых исследований, антрополог Сета Лоу показывает, как основанный на этнографическом подходе пространственный анализ способен пролить свет на повседневную жизнь людей, в чьи дома и места проживания вторгаются глобализация, неравномерное пространственное развитие (uneven development), насилие и социальное неравенство. Лоу разрабатывает понятие «пространственного воплощения культуры», включающее в себя одновременно несколько концептуальных рамок: от социального производства и социального конструирования пространства до анализа телесности, дискурса, эмоций, аффектов и транслокальности. В сочетании этих подходов автор видит способ по-новому взглянуть на взаимодействие человека с окружающей средой в городском планировании и архитектуре. Задача, которую ее концепция помогает решить, – предложить специалистам новые методы для создания социально чувствительной и экологически устойчивой городской среды.
