Первый по-настоящему глобальный конфликт Нового времени – Семилетняя война (1756–1763 гг.) – занимает скромное место в отечественной историографии. Участие России было отмечено блестящими триумфами над самой грозной в Европе прусской армией, но драматические повороты политики привели к тому, что эти победы остались без видимых результатов, а война оказалась невостребованной в национальной исторической памяти. Между тем колоссальные военные усилия России отразились на социальных, культурных, экономических процессах, которые во многом повлияли на развитие страны в последующие десятилетия. Международный авторский коллектив ставит перед собой задачу не просто пробудить у читателя интерес к эпохе и открыть новые источники, но и показать Семилетнюю войну как часть европейской истории России. Книга создает объемный образ военной эпохи и рассказывает о различных ее сторонах – от армии, дипломатии, внутренней политики и экономики до информационного освещения войны, самосознания ее участников и современников.
